Crystal Kolt

Crystal Kolt is the Director of Culture and Community Initiatives for the City of Flin Flon. She was the Cultural Coordinator for the Flin Flon Arts Council from 2008 – 2023 and served on the founding task force committee for Culture Days, on the Manitoba Arts Council Board of Directors (2014 - 2017) and was on the International Council for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. Crystal received the Lieutenant Governor Award for Volunteerism (2007), the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal (2012), the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Award (2022) and was invested into the Order of Manitoba in 2012. Crystal has produced numerous musical theatre and classical masterworks productions, including collaborations with the Winnipeg and Saskatoon symphony orchestras and original musical theatre works such as Bombertown and Three Brides for Kasos. Other signature initiatives include facilitating the Flin Flon Community Choir’s performances in New York’s Carnegie Hall (2002, 2015 and 2023), the Lincoln Centre in 2013 and commissioning Caribou-hair-tufting artist Theresa Wride to create a Diamond Jubilee Anniversary tufting to present to Queen Elizabeth II. In 2020 she guided the Flin Flon Arts Council in the founding of the Uptown Emporium www.uptownemporium54.com which was created to support the economic development of northern artists and artisans. 

Crystal is presently the chair of the Executive Council for the proposed North Central Canada Centre of Arts and Environment www.ncccae.ca with the goal to support all creatives in the north and to explore the commonalities between the arts and healthy built environments. She is also on the imagiNorthern project committee. The Flin Flon Arts Council was awarded $250,000.00 in 2022 by the Canada Council for the Arts Strategic Innovation Fund to support imagiNorthern project with the mission to develop six ‘depots’ in Northern Manitoba guided by regional Northern Champions.

Kristy Janvier

Kristy Janvier is born and raised in Flin Flon and is of Dene (English River First Nation) and mixed European decent. At the age of 18 she began working overseas as a professional actress/dancer. After 15 years of working in the entertainment industry with Disney, Kristy returned to Canada relying on her presence/meditation practice to guide her work. Performances are influenced by improvisation yet structured from personal story incorporating images, installation, sound recording, and/or video.In addition to her performance work, Kristy has been sewing beadwork since 2018. Sales from her beadwork, Secret_Life_of_Beads, goes towards funding her family’s bush cabin started in 1934 for future generations.Currently she is working with the imgaiNorthern Project and Uptown Emporium as the Northern Champion Coordinator connecting artists of all mediums in our small communities to support their practices or sell their work. Past Highlights: She had an opportunity to explore her research on water, the rivers, bloodlines and healing with the support of Young Lungs Dance Exchange in Winnipeg (winter 2016-17). 

Her first solo work “Forest Floor” showed with Free Flow/Saskatoon (Sept ’17), Weesageechak Begins to Dance/Toronto (Nov '17),Nocturne/Halifax (Oct ’18), and Nextfest/Edmonton (June ’19). The video work from the E|MERGE artist residency at Earthdance, Massachusetts (Feb '18) has screened at 5 film festivals in Canada. Her current solo work, Hide, has been supported by the Made in BC Re-Centering/Margins Creative Residency (2019) and shared in Edmonton (Feb'20) at the Expanse Festival. She has toured as an invited guest with Dancers of Damelahamid with Flicker (Oct-Nov ’17) and the national and international premier of Mînowin (Sept-Nov ’19). She has also worked with Raven Spirit Dance in The Gift (2019), presented solo work at IndigDIV (2019) and Confluence (2020).

Cheryl Antonio

  • Born and raised in the Tri-Communities of Opaskwayak, RM of Kelsey and The Pas, Cheryl Antonio is a true champion of the area! Growing up, there were fiddle players, banjo players, players of the spoons, guitar players, singers, and dancers in the midst of life. Cheryl became a woodwind player at a young age and developed a love for the saxaphone in high school.  Attending many plays and shows, she also enjoyed being on stage as much as watching. 
    Cheryl has received her education in many fields including Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, Applied Counselling, Library Technician, IT Training, Event Planning, and most recently she has been taking courses in Indigenous Studies as well as Truth and Reconciliation through the University of Alberta.
    For 27 years, Cheryl was employed by Kelsey School Division.  In June 2023, Cheryl retired from KSD and moved into a position with the Northern Manitoba Food, Culture and Community Collaborative, an organization which is an innovative collaborative of Northern Manitoban community members, advisors, funders, and organizations. They foster stronger communities through greater access to healthy foods and by developing resilient local economics. 
    Cheryl also enjoys volunteer work.  She has sat on more than 20 boards and 10 organizations in the Tri-Area.  She is actively involved with 4-H both locally and at the provincial level and has spoken at national events. 
She has been a director of The Pas Arts Council for many years and through this position has become the chair of the Culture Days celebrations.  She also heads up Storytellers' Film Festival, an Indigenous Festival which has recently celebrated 10 years.  Home Routes also calls Cheryl their main contact for the area. Cheryl is a photographer and a film maker. She has had work in many publications, and you can see some of her films on MTS Stories From Home and APTN's Michif Country. She has also taught many classes on iPhone photography and iMovie making. Cheryl loves to paint with acrylics and has led some very enjoyable, local paint nights. She also teaches traditional Metis beading and ribbon skirt making. She loves to garden and to share her plant knowledge with others as well as food! Cheryl heads up the local garden rescue program and loves to get food to those in need.  She also is known to host cooking classes, most of which participants harvest their food before cooking it. 
Also extremely community oriented, Cheryl is the go to person for resources and questions. She loves to hook people up, coordinate events, and to promote all things good in the area. It is these characteristics that won her the title of Citizen of the Year, the Manitoba 150 Honour Award, and the Premier's Volunteer Service Award. 
Most of all, Cheryl is a mother and grandmother who loves to pass down her cultures, her love for the arts, the outdoors, and for living a good life.

Danita Stallard

Danita Stallard is the peculiar personality behind FlitterMouse Studio's collection of snack-sized artwork and quirky comics. As an intrepid adventurer and indiscriminate tree-hugger, Stallard finds her inspiration in the rugged forests of Northern Manitoba. Her creativity is fuelled by copious amounts of Earl Grey tea, a fascination with folklore, and the occasional infusion of pure silliness. She remains, as ever, a firm believer in the many uses of salt.
